Destin - Day 1

We left home around 1 p.m. on Friday but we didn't actually leave town until around 3:30 p.m. We had stopped at Lion's Choice to get some lunch on the way out of town and I noticed that the check battery light was on in the van. We turned around and pulled into the AutoZone parking lot. The man came out to test the battery and it completely died right there. Within an hour, my very handy husband had purchased and installed the new battery and we were on the road! Our plan was to drive until we were tired and find a hotel somewhere along the way. At 10:00 p.m., we turned off the kids DVD player and told them to get some sleep. They knew we would be stopping at some point. Well, we didn't. Keith was feeling good so we just kept driving ALL THE WAY TO DESTIN. We arrived at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday. The kids were in complete shock when they woke up, looked out their window and saw white sand and palm trees. When I explained that it was morning, Kaitlyn kept saying, "I don't get it." They had thought they would wake up in a hotel somewhere in Alabama and here we were in Florida. We were on the beach by 6 a.m. These pictures were taken right as we walked on the beach at 5:50 a.m. (Kaedyn rode down with my parents and they didn't arrive until around noon on Saturday.) The beach was pretty quiet at that time of day. One of the first things we saw at the beach was a pretty big jelly fish.

There were a bunch of fishing boats gathering bait right off the shore

Comments:
# That is going to be such a neat memory for Kaitlyn and Kyle -- waking up in Florida and watching the sunrise on the beach!
